Straddle Carriers

Kress Straddle Carriers are designed to form the most modern and cost-effective steel mill transportation system. They are ideally suited to moving red hot or cold products such as slabs, blooms, coils, etc. between plant areas and stockyards. Straddle Carriers are available in a variety of configurations with load capacity ranging from 110,000 lbs (50 tonnes) to 330,000 lbs (150 tonnes).

The layout and high lift hydraulic tongs, of Kress Straddle Carriers allows them to pass over stockyard rows fully laden and with the ability to randomly access any location in a high density stockyard. Good maneuverability and the ability to operate on typical heavy vehicle roads gives straddle carriers access to plant areas with minimal infrastructure requirements.

Kress Straddle Carriers utilize mechanical powertrains for reliability and efficiency. Four (4) cycle diesel engines drive through multi-speed automatic transmission to planetary wheel hubs via a vertical drive shaft system. Major components are positioned for good maintenance access.

All wheels feature full hydraulic suspension, large E4 earthmover tires of adequate capacity, and large disc brakes to ensure the carriers are capable of providing a very high total performance envelope with safety.
